Holiday Party - Dec. 7

Our annual holiday party started at 6:30 pm on December 7 at Charlie Brown's Steakhouse in Fishkill. The event was organized by post adjutant, Lance Ashworth, who did a great job. The occasion was marred somewhat by the passing of post member Bob Logan who transferred to Post Everlasting the previous day. We also welcomed our newest member, Lydia Shishowski, an Air Force veteran who served during the Korean conflict.

Department Commander's Dinner - Nov. 4

The Commander's Dinner for the Department of New York was held at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel on Nov. 4. Post members John Call, George Dickman, Commander Jim Reynolds and Dan Oberhauser attended. Jim and George attended with their wives.

Dan Oberhauser presented a check from Post 1758 for $100 to the department's new Commander, Mike McDermott.

Army Football Outing - Oct. 5

The day started with attendees meeting at the Dutchess Mall parking lot. Bagels and cream cheese were provided by Bill Kriebel. The procession proceeded to the Thayer Hotel gate at West Point, and then to the Provost Marshall's parking lot where a tailgate party was organized. Lance provided a small gazebo which presented some challenges to the engineers. But they finally got it up and Jay arrived with a small gas-fired grill for the hot dogs and hamburgers.

The game started well for Army with them scoring first, but it went downhill for Army after that. Their defense couldn't seem to stop Tulane's offense, and by the middle of the fourth quarter, it was clear that the cadets weren't going to prevail. There was some excitement at half-time when three members of a parachute team tried landing on a target in the middle of the field. We were all seated in the south end-zone, and the jumpers came right over our heads, coming mighty close to the top of the goal posts. The final score was Tulane 42, Army 33.

Post members in attendance were Lance Ashworth, Don Burns, Mike Dennerlein, Mark Graser, Bill Kriebel, Jay Livermore, Tom Masch, Bill Meyer, Dan Oberhauser, Caroline Pogge (a Tulane alumna) and Joe Ryan. Also in the party were some guests brought by members.

Music was provided by the Hudson Valley Council Band and the Dotted Half Notes Chorus. Numerous local dignitaries spoke. Post members in attendance were Dan Briscoe, Jim Broughton, Don Burns, Hal Brilliant, John Call, Bruce Coneeny, George Dickman, Hal Engel, Ferg Foley, Mark Graser, Charlie Hertel, Bill Kriebel, Bob Logan, John McMahon, Bill Meyer, Dan Oberhauser, Sam Patton, Caroline Pogge, John Polasko, Jim Reynolds, Vinnie Richards (with the band), Harry Rodriguez and Joe Ryan.

Post Picnic - July 28

Sunday, July 28 was the day for our post picnic at the Hopewell Rec. pavilion. John Polasko organized the event, Lance Ashworth acted as grillmaster serving up hot dogs and hamburgers, and other members brought dishes and other essentials.
