Veterans Day Weekend fundraiser – Nov. 9

In previous years, we’ve done our “coin drop” fundraiser on Veterans Day, but this year, we decided to do in on the preceding Saturday so that we could take advantage of Veterans Day specials. The day was clear and chilly, and we started the collection at 8:00 am. Tables were set up at Stewart’s Shops and Flory’s on Rt. 82, Tractor Supply in Wappingers Falls, the 84 Diner and Red Line Diner in Fishkill, and Convenient Mart on Rt. 52.

Stewart’s: Jeff Boes, Commander Jim Reynolds, Len Hart and Drew Ballantone

Flory’s: Claude Wuytack, John Polasko, Bill Kriebel, Bill Meyer and (not shown) Mike Miller

Tractor Supply: Tom Masch, Santo Abbate, Fred Beck and Dan Briscoe

84 Diner: Ed Morrison and Jim Broughton

Red Line Diner: Karl Sokol and Norm Dauerer

Convenient Mart: Dan Oberhauser, Rich Galdiero and John Call

Whortlekill Car Show - Sep. 22

The Whortlekill Rod and Gun Club once again graciously allowed us to set up a tent at their car show so we could distribute information about our post and our programs, as well as collect some donations. Don Burns, Bill Kriebel, Bill Meyer and Commander Jim Reynolds manned the tent. Fred Beck, who had a car in the show, dropped by, as well as did Tom Masch.

Poppy Day "Coin Drop" - May 25

Technically, Poppy Day is designated by the American Legion as the Friday preceding Memorial Day. It's the day for distributing "poppies" in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives in the defense of our nation. Our post distributes the "poppies" on the Saturday before Memorial Day. We also give people the opportunity to make donations which will be used for the welfare of local veterans.

This year, we made distributions at six locations starting at 8:00 a.m. and wrapping up about 2:00 p.m.: Stewart's on Rt. 82, Convenience Mart on Rt.52, Red Line Diner in Fishkill, 84 Diner in Fiskill and Tractor Supply in Wappingers Falls. At Stewart's, "manning" the table was Len Hart, Jeff Boes, Lauren (?) and Commander Jim Reynolds. Convenience Mart had John Call and Dan Oberhauser. Karl Sokol and Norm Dauerer were at Red Line Diner, while Jim Broughton, Ed Morrison and Kevin Hines were at 84 Diner. Tractor Supply had Santo Abbate, Fred Beck and Don Burns. At Flory's it was Bill Meyer, John Polasko, Claude Wuytack and Bill Kriebel.

At the end of the day, many hundreds of "poppies" went into the hands of the public. In the process, the post received some much needed (and much appreciated) monetary donations. Well done to all who participated!
